Lockers at Mesa View are not pleasant for students, they give us many problems with our school life. They are so small, poorly arranged, and the malfunctions are frustrating. Mesa View should come up with a fundraiser so that we can have ease opening our lockers, fit all of our materials in them, and we do not trip over each other while trying to get to our locker. This would make it so that we do not have to stress over our lockers, let alone our schoolwork. Read the rest of this entry »
Having Gum In School By: Salvador
March 5, 2009 at 5:56 pm (Opinion)
Do you sometimes feel a need to have a gum in your mouth or do you need to have some part of your body always moving? Then we need to try to get teachers to let us have gum in class. There are so many positive ways that gum could help you. One way is that we would be more concentrated on our work, Some students need to have a part of their body all ways moving, and some gum makes your teeth healthy. There is a special type of gum that helps your teeth to stay healthy and clean. So you see, there are many ways to concentrate or have healthy teeth.
Another reason schools should let use have gum is that we would get better grades than usual. We would be able to concentrate on our work and we would try a lot harder to get A’s on our report card, because we would be more pressured. If teachers let us have gum we would get better grades. We would have to demonstrate that we could get better grades and we would have to concentrate on our grades. That is why teachers should let us have gum in class.
Even though we have good reasons about having gum in school there are some negative consequences. One consequences is that if you drop your gum in the carpet it might make a really big mess. Another consequences is that if you stick your gum under a table or a desk some one else could put his or her hand under the desk or table and get his or her hand stuck by the gum.
So as you can see, if teachers let us have gum in school there could be more concentration on our work because some students have to have a part of their body moving or have healthy teeth. We would get better grades by paying more attention to your teacher. Or by getting better grades, if we were not 13 years old we would be less carful in having gum. We are 13 years old and teachers know that we are very responsible.
The Good and Bad Side of Multitasking By, Amber
March 5, 2009 at 5:56 pm (Opinion)
Do you multitask? I know I do, but there is both a good and dangerous side of multitasking. “Multitasking is a good thing,” you probably think, but you are wrong because it can be distracting.
The dangerous side of multitasking is when you’re in your car and driving to town suddenly you get a text or phone call. Well, you answer and you don’t pay attention to driving anymore. You could then get into a accident from your multitasking and that is very dangerous to you and everyone around you. It can also be bad when a teacher is talking to you, but you are addicted to texting so you text in class instead. Then you don’t know what she/he talked to you about like if she said there would be a test soon, and you wouldn’t learn anything, which makes grades go down . In addition to that, you could get caught and get in big trouble. Also, when you multitask you might go too fast or be too careless and you have to start what you were doing again from scratch. That will take more time then if you didn’t multitask in the first place.
Multitasking can still be good though sometimes we have to multitask. Your teacher is telling you something some people take notes on her lecture. That is multitasking and a good thing to do just in case you forget what your teacher said afterwards. Or the classic eating while watching a movie or TV. People do it all the time and you do it because some people eat to get distracted from things like scary parts of a horror movie. This one is my favorites thing to do mulitasking listening to music while doing your chores or cleaning. It helps you go faster, have fun, and not be boring. Chores and cleaning are usually boring, but when you listen to music while doing them it’s more fun.
So you see, multitasking can be fun but also bad to do. So, just make sure you use multitasking in the right way, other wise it can be bad for you and to others. Would you want to hurt someone while multitasking?
Requirement or Punishment Ashley

When you were in 7th grade did you have to take P.E.? Well, I have to take it. In modern-day middle schools Physical Education is a requirement. This is sometimes a good thing and sometimes a bad thing. I am here to tell you both sides of the argument.
On one hand P.E. can be a great exercise class. In P.E. you do a lot of running and gymnastics. You get a great workout when you do the cardio program. Also, some kids can build up muscles and with better muscles they have better self-esteem.P.E. is important, because it helps you get better at running and increases your flexibility. P.E. plays an important role in some kids’ self-esteem. When you have good self-esteem you feel better, and have more confidence which helps you in your school work. But P.E. isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be.
P.E. can also be very dangerous. It’s very likely that you could get injured. If your school doesn’t have a good running track, you could trip and sprain a wrist or an ankle. Some kids also have very serious diseases like asthma and autism that if you had an attack or a seizure while doing something active with others around you could get very badly injured. Also, with diseases like asthma the disease could get worse by running and doing other activities that we do in Physical Education. Not to mention that if you had a seizure with other people around you, it could take a hit on your self-esteem. Some kids don’t think it’s fair that P.E. is a requirement. They think it’s a punishment.
Personally I am on both sides, sometimes I can stand P.E, and sometimes I can’t. It’s all in the way that you look at it. I have given both sides of the argument so now it’s your turn to decide. P.E. … is it a requirement or a punishment?
Food In School by sean

Do you think we should have food in school? I think we should because it would give us our brain food and we wouldn’t lose our concentration. By concentration I mean that when we get hungry we want food and we can be so hungry that we don’t pay attention or even care to. I will tell you the good and the bad about food in school in my opinion.
First I think that we should have food in school because it would give us brain food. By brain food I mean energy so we can have healthy minds. If you ask most people if they think better when they have eaten they usually say yes because they have better concentration so they are learning what is being taught to them instead of giving no attention to the subject and doing poorly in class. People don’t just think better but they also feel better which means they are in a better mood. When we eat or have had a snack our test scores go up so a couple of our teachers allow snacks in class, and those are our most liked teachers.
There can also be a down side to this for kids, teachers and janitors. The disadvantage for kids is if they eat to much it could mess up their eating plan which can mess up other things as well. For the teachers it might be that the kids are bringing candy or things the teachers said were not allowed. But the worse part would be for the janitors because they would have a lot more trash and crumbs laying around everywhere which means double the work.
So if they are doing double the work and getting paid the same amount they might feel they are being mistreated and quit.
Also kids can become very distracted by the thought of food.
Students might be wanting to eat so much that they don’t care what is going on which would cause them to have to be taught for the second time on whatever subject they should have learned the first time it was taught to them. Some kids will get head aches or stomach aches which can also cause learning to stop for that student, and that makes the student, parents and teachers upset if one of the high scoring students starts to fail.
We could have stomach aches, head aches and even students not learning what they are supposed to because we don’t have food in school. Those were my reasonings for having food in school and will always stand by them… until I’m out of school of course but for now those are my reasonings for food in school.
Snacks in Class ,By: Kristin

Snacks in Class
Have you ever wanted to eat food during class? I think having something to munch on during school should be allowed. There are two reasons why we should have food in class. The first is that students are growing so they need more nutrient. Second of all experts say that eating healthy will help you get smarter.
To start with as a middle schooler I know that I am growing and I need the nutrition. The best way to receive nutrition is by eating healthy food. This nutrition helps our bodies grow stronger. Many studies show that the most important meal time is breakfast. What if we miss breakfast? If we don’t have breakfast then we are more in need of food than normal. We were not meant to go without eating for a very long time, particularly when we are maturing and growing.
Another reason is experts also say that if you eat healthy, then you show more progress in school than those not eating or eating non-healthy. It is true that if the teachers gave us food it would either need to be healthy or we would have no right to ask them to give us snacks. Non-healthy or “junk food” is not good to our bodies and we would definitely not grow smarter. However, if we did have healthy food then it would have certain benefits. Including that we would pay attention more to the school work than our growling stomachs.
The last advantage for letting students have food is that we wouldn’t have to sneak it. How many times has someone asked you if you wanted gum, even if they knew it wasn’t allowed? How many times have you taken that gum? Gum is forbidden mostly because of the mess it makes on the carpet. So food, reasonably, is also forbidden mostly because of all the wrappers and crumbs left on the floor. I suggest that if a class makes considerable clutter then have them clean up and be late for the next class.
A person once said: “Things only become more desirable when they are forbidden.” So since eating food is forbidden then students will only want it more. Snacks should be allowed in class.

Nikola Tesla By:Josh

Who was the smartest man in history, Einstein, Edison, try Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla or the “Electric Wizard,” is one of the greatest men in history, although…you may have never even heard of him. The impact Tesla made on the world in such an immense way, Nikola Tesla discovered the AC current that helps us power everything that is electrical.
Nikola was a great man, in just two years he made over twenty patents. One of them was the alternating generator. For several years Nikola Tesla worked under the eyes of Thomas Edison himself improving Edison’s inventions (like the dynamo which was used with DC [Direct Currents)] and even giving some of his fantastic ideas that Thomas probably shot down. Nikola Tesla worked hard and long for Edison and finally demanded that Thomas give him more credit and higher pay, when he did not get it… he quit. Read the rest of this entry »
Gatorade!-by Sean

Do you like gatorade? Most people do. Did you know that Dr. Robert Cade was the person to invent it and now because of him we have Powerade, Propel, but those are just some of the many sports drinks this year. I will tell you were it was invented and why it’s called what it is, I will also tell you why they invented it and how it helped the world.
Dr. Cade was a professor at Florida University and he invented Gatorade in 1956 because the Gators team physician noticed that their players were losing energy and wanted them to think of a new drink that would keep their players going. So they invented gatorade and quickly after the Gators started winning and thats how they thought of the name gatorade. Read the rest of this entry »
